Student Focus on Health Programs

High School/Middle School
In 1981, Focus on Health was launched for high school students. With it’s theme: Be kind to your body….It has to last a lifetime, the program’s goal has been to encourage young people to take an active role in making healthy choices and to see their health as their own personal responsibility. Through health checks and health education activities, this fun, active format links students to existing community resources. The high school model expanded into middle schools and, to date, over 117,000 students have attended.

Elementary School
Realizing students often make their health care choices prior to middle school led to the development of our elementary programs. In 1994, Digging for Buried Treasure…Your Good Health was initiated for second and third graders. Adventure of Your Lifetime Theme Park…..Your Ticket to Good Health was offered to fourth and fifth grades in 1997. These fun, interactive formats designed as a treasure hunt or theme park expose children to learning about nutrition, exercise, healthy heart and lungs, and safety. Over 32,000 students have experienced this program.

Approximately 2,250 additional students have participated in health related
educational sessions since 2005. These events involved Fort Wayne
Community Schools Club House Program and other community organization
sponsored events.
